How to Use the Scientific Calculator
Basic calculations
Key in numbers with the dark keypad, choose + − × ÷, and press = to complete the calculation. ON/C clears everything, ← deletes the last digit, and parentheses control the order of operations — the calculator multiplies before it adds, just like the original TI-30Xa.
Second functions (2nd)
Press 2nd once and the 2ND indicator lights up; the next key uses the small label printed above it: 10ˣ, eˣ, SIN⁻¹, x³, ³√x, x!, ˣ√y, nCr, nPr. For example, 7 2nd x! gives 5040 and 8 2nd ˣ√y 3 = gives the cube root of 8.
Degrees, radians and grads
DRG cycles the angle unit shown in the display. 2nd DRG converts the number on screen into the next unit — 45 in DEG becomes 0.785398163 in RAD and 50 in GRAD.
Fractions
a b/c places the fraction bar: 3 a b/c 4 + 1 a b/c 2 = gives 1.25. Press 2nd a b/c (d/c) to see the same result as a fraction, shown as 1 1/4.
Scientific notation
EE enters an exponent (3 EE 8 is 3 × 10⁸). 2nd EE cycles the display between FLO, SCI and ENG, and 2nd ← followed by a digit fixes the number of decimal places.
Memory
STO then 1, 2 or 3 stores the displayed value; RCL then 1, 2 or 3 recalls it. 2nd 8 adds to M1, 2nd 9 subtracts from M1, 2nd STO converts polar to rectangular and 2nd RCL converts rectangular to polar (press the key again to switch between the two components).
Statistics
Enter each value and press Σ+ to store it. Then 2nd 1 gives Σx, 2nd 2 gives Σx², 2nd 3 the mean, 2nd 4 σn, 2nd 5 σn−1 and 2nd 6 the count. 2nd Σ+ removes the last point, and 2nd 0 clears the data set.
