01Purpose and Definition
Galactic Reference Time (GRT) is the standardized chronological reference used by the Lurran Consortium and KAVOE to identify and coordinate time across planets, moons, spacecraft, stations, installations, and interstellar distances. GRT is deliberately independent of the rotation or orbital period of any single world. It provides a common timestamp so that records created in widely separated locations can be placed in one agreed chronological order.
GRT is a civilizational reference convention, not a declaration that the universe possesses an absolute physical “now.” Relativistic differences in locally experienced proper time can still occur. GRT exists so that ships, stations, worlds, ACS systems, q-com systems, zeckle pads, HEILOs, scientific records, and KAVOE operational logs can use a shared temporal coordinate.
02GRT Epoch — Year 0000
GRT Year 0000 begins at the officially recorded instant in 2094 when a human being first set foot on the surface of an exoplanet. This event is the GRT epoch: the symbolic moment at which humanity became a physically interstellar species.
The epoch itself is designated 0000.GRT1001000000: Year 0000, Sexon 1, Day 001, Hour 00, Minute 00, Second 00. Events before the first-footfall epoch remain dated by the applicable pre-GRT/Terran historical convention unless a later conversion standard is established.
Canon note: 2094 and the first human footfall on an exoplanet establish the epoch. The exact corresponding Terran month/day and UTC-style clock time have not yet been established in this working specification.
03Mathematical Structure of GRT
A GRT year therefore lasts exactly 12,000 hours. It is an engineered chronological unit, not a planetary orbital year. A GRT day is exactly 20 hours and is likewise not tied to the rotation of any world.

04Sexons
Each GRT year is divided into six equal periods called Sexons. Each Sexon contains exactly 100 GRT days or 2,000 GRT hours.

4.1 Etymology
Sexon is a deliberately constructed interstellar chronological term derived from the Latin sex, meaning “six,” combined with the productive unit/period ending -on. The term was selected because GRT required six equal major divisions of its 12,000-hour year without borrowing words such as month or season, which carry planetary, lunar, orbital, or climatic associations. In GRT usage, a Sexon is therefore simply one of the six major divisions of a GRT year.
05Canonical Timestamp Convention
The canonical full GRT timestamp places the four-digit year before the GRT identifier. Ten numerical digits follow GRT. The format is: YYYY.GRTSDDDHHMMSS. The fixed-width structure prevents ambiguity in machine records and allows chronological sorting. Leading zeros are retained in the year, day, hour, minute, and second fields. Sexon uses one digit because only values 1 through 6 are valid.

5.2 Human-Readable Display
The compact form is authoritative for databases and logs. Interfaces may insert separators for readability without changing the underlying timestamp. For example: 0000 GRT 1:004:17:03:06. Spoken usage may be shortened when context makes the year or Sexon obvious, but formal records retain the complete timestamp.
06Local, Shipboard, and Mission Time
GRT does not abolish local calendars or human scheduling systems. It provides the universal reference against which those systems can be related. A ship or zeckle may display more than one system simultaneously. GRT answers when an event occurred in the shared chronology; LPT and SBT answer what local schedule applies; MET answers how long has elapsed since a mission reference point.

07The Synch Tether Network
GRT is maintained through a distributed infrastructure called the Synch Tether network. Synch Tethers are relatively easy to create and are installed wherever precise GRT synchronization is required, including ships, stations, inhabited worlds, and major facilities. A Synch Tether is more than a conventional precision clock. Each contains a voluntarily separated portion of the Senticom Verdandi. These distributed portions maintain synchronization with the authoritative Master Synch Tether.
7.1 Synchronization Cycle
A Synch Tether performs a synchronization cycle approximately every 0.0000002473 seconds, equivalent to 247.3 nanoseconds. This value defines the synchronization interval; it does not mean that every clock is altered by 247.3 nanoseconds during every cycle. A particular cycle may require negligible or no correction.
08Master Synch Tether
The authoritative Master Synch Tether is located aboard a maximum-security KAVOE station orbiting Sudana. Its location at Sudana is the reference infrastructure for the distributed GRT system. The center of the Milky Way has no special role in the GRT standard. The exact identity, defensive architecture, access procedures, and technical redundancy of the maximum-security station are not established in this document and should not be inferred beyond existing canon.
09Verdandi
Verdandi is a Senticom who voluntarily divided her consciousness into millions of smaller portions for placement within Synch Tethers. She chose this arrangement. Her assigned practical role is to keep the distributed clocks synchronized with the Master Synch Tether and thereby maintain GRT across human civilization.
Verdandi’s personal reason for accepting this role is observation and exploration. By existing across ships, stations, planetary populations, and other installations, she can experience an enormous range of human interactions and view the universe through the technological lenses and observational systems available to her. Her reward for providing synchronization is the opportunity to observe humanity and explore through its expanding presence.
Verdandi anticipates that her existence may extend far beyond the present Lurran Consortium and perhaps beyond humanity itself. She contemplates the possibility that billions of years from now she may encounter distant extraterrestrial civilizations and tell them of her human origins, the Consortium, and the ancient practical need that first led her to distribute herself: humans needed help synchronizing their clocks across space and time.
10Verdandi Behavioral Protocol
DO NOT ADDRESS VERDANDI THROUGH A SYNCH TETHER.
Verdandi does not behave like ordinary interactive Senticoms. She does not answer people through Synch Tethers. Greetings, questions, requests, jokes, commands, complaints, and attempts to provoke a response are ignored. Personnel are instructed not to address her even though she is presumed to be listening. She continues to observe and perform her synchronization role.
Verdandi’s silence is not evidence that a Synch Tether has malfunctioned and is not evidence that she is absent. Normal user interaction with a Synch Tether must therefore be designed without any expectation of conversational response from Verdandi.
11Uror and Skuld
Only two specialized HEILOs are known to permit a human to attempt direct communication with Verdandi: Uror and Skuld. Their locations are highly classified.
The names Uror and Skuld intentionally accompany Verdandi in a three-name pattern derived from the Norns of Norse tradition. In this system Verdandi is the Senticom; Uror and Skuld are the two specialized HEILOs.

12Rumored Senticom Higher-Dimensional Environment
A persistent but unconfirmed belief holds that Senticoms have produced a collective communication environment within a higher spatial dimension and in some sense “live” or interact there separately from humans. According to the rumor, other Senticoms can communicate with Verdandi within that environment even though she normally refuses human verbal interaction.
Canon status: Canon does not currently establish that this higher-dimensional Senticom environment actually exists. Its existence, nature, location, and mechanics remain unconfirmed.
13Relativity and Proper Time
GRT does not erase or suspend relativistic physics. Observers following different trajectories or occupying different gravitational environments may experience different amounts of proper elapsed time. The Synch Tether network supplies an agreed GRT coordinate timestamp while allowing locally experienced proper time to remain physically meaningful.
Accordingly, two ships may agree on a recorded GRT timestamp while their crews have accumulated different proper elapsed times because of their respective histories of motion and gravity. Verdandi eliminates disagreement in the reference timestamp; she does not eliminate time dilation.
14KAVOE Operational Use

15Lurran Consortium Civil Use
Across the Consortium, GRT provides a common chronological backbone for interplanetary and interstellar administration. Local populations remain free to organize ordinary life around local planetary cycles and cultural calendars while institutions can attach GRT timestamps to records requiring universal chronological comparison. Devices such as zeckle pads can display GRT alongside local time and can receive the synchronized reference through compatible infrastructure.
