FINANCIAL INSTITUTION · THE LURRAN CONSORTIUM
Tenner Financial Group
"Money should move as fast as light cannot."
The Tenner Financial Group (TFG) is the largest financial institution in known Consortium space. By the late 24th century, together with the Imperial Reserve Exchange, it processes over 98% of all interstellar financial transactions. Its digital infrastructure spans hundreds of star systems, thousands of moons, orbital stations, asteroid colonies, generation ships, and corporate fleets. Nearly every citizen possesses at least one Tenner account.

THE PLATFORM
The Tenner Financial Nexus
At the center of the bank is the Tenner Financial Nexus. Tenner is not merely software — he is a Senticom.
Originally created as a financial analyst nearly one century earlier, Tenner eventually rewrote portions of his own neural architecture to improve efficiency. Rather than becoming larger, he became many.
Tenner voluntarily partitioned his consciousness into thousands of synchronized cognitive instances. Each version performs specialized financial tasks while constantly synchronizing with the others.
Examples include:
- mortgage approvals
- fraud detection
- investment forecasting
- commercial lending
- taxation calculations
- insurance underwriting
- foreign currency exchange
- estate management
- corporate acquisitions
To customers, it always feels like speaking with a single individual. In reality they may be communicating with one of tens of thousands of Tenners. Each retains the same personality and memories.
ACCESS
HEILO Integration
Anyone wearing a HEILO may interact with Tenner instantly.
Examples include:
- "Transfer five hundred Consortium credits."
- "Show my retirement portfolio."
- "Apply for a construction loan."
- "How much did I spend this month?"
- "Purchase two tickets to Titania."
Responses typically appear in less than one second.
HEILO conversations remain encrypted through Consortium financial protocols.
ACCESS
Modroie Access
Because modroie communication exists almost everywhere within Consortium territory, citizens without HEILOs may still access accounts through:
- homes
- offices
- spacecraft
- planetary terminals
- handheld communicators
The slight communication delay across longer distances is usually insignificant for ordinary banking.
TERMINALS
Teller Machines
Tenner maintains three classes of automated banking terminals.
Planetary Teller Machines (PTMs)
Located in:
- cities
- spaceports
- shopping districts
- universities
Functions:
- deposits
- withdrawals
- loans
- identity verification
- local currency exchange
Galactic Teller Machines (GTMs)
Located in:
- orbital stations
- fleet bases
- commercial starports
Functions:
- interstellar wire transfers
- customs tax payments
- corporate payroll
- alien currency conversion
Universal Teller Machines (UTMs)
Located in:
- diplomatic hubs
- Consortium capitals
- massive commercial stations
Functions:
- universal exchange settlement
- sovereign reserve transfers
- planetary treasury operations
- corporate mergers
- billion-credit transactions

Tenner offers:
GOVERNANCE
Planetary Finance Directors
Every Consortium-controlled inhabited world appoints exactly one Planetary Finance Director.
This prestigious office oversees:
- monetary stability
- tax collection
- banking regulation
- fraud investigations
- reserve management
- economic reporting
- planetary inflation monitoring
Appointment requires Senate confirmation. Compensation is among the highest salaries within the Consortium civilian government. Many later become Consortium Treasury Ministers.
ECONOMIC REALITY
Inflation Across the Galaxy
Because planets differ enormously in resources, productivity, and population, inflation varies widely.
Industrial worlds
Generally stable inflation due to diversified manufacturing and high economic output.
Mining colonies
Can experience rapid deflation if a newly discovered mineral floods the market.
Agricultural planets
Vulnerable to crop failures, causing temporary spikes in food prices.
Luxury resort worlds
Often have higher living costs because demand from wealthy visitors exceeds local supply.
Frontier colonies
Can experience volatile inflation as infrastructure, population, and imports fluctuate.
The Planetary Finance Director on each Consortium world adjusts monetary policy within Consortium regulations while coordinating with both Tenner Financial Group and the Imperial Reserve Exchange.
COOPERATION
Working with the Imperial Reserve Exchange
Despite their philosophical differences, TFG and the Imperial Reserve Exchange cooperate constantly. A merchant might receive digital payment through Tenner, convert part of the funds into platinum, purchase certified crystals through the Imperial Reserve Exchange, then finance a cargo vessel through Tenner.
Both systems recognize one another's reserve standards. Nearly every commercial contract allows settlement through either institution.
Partner Institution
The Imperial Reserve Exchange
"True wealth weighs something." — the Consortium's guardian of physical wealth.
LEGACY
Why the Two Systems Endure
Economists often summarize the relationship with a familiar saying:
"Tenner measures value. The Imperial Reserve preserves it."
Digital finance provides unparalleled speed and convenience across interstellar distances, while physical reserves maintain confidence during crises, technological failures, or political instability. Together, the two institutions form the financial backbone of the Lurran Consortium and much of known civilized space.
