Iron Spear Defenses
"The Threat Stops Here."
HEADQUARTERS
Nike, Gliese 3923
SPECIALTY
High-risk escort and anti-piracy operations
REPUTATION
Aggressive, disciplined, expensive
Overview
Iron Spear is the company clients hire when they believe somebody may actually shoot at them.
Its founders were former KAVOE enlisted personnel who believed conventional commercial-security firms were too focused on observation, insurance compliance, and evacuation. Iron Spear instead developed an escort doctrine centered on interposition: its craft deliberately position themselves between the client and an approaching threat.
Craft
Spearhead Escort Craft
A compact, heavily accelerated two- to four-person patrol craft.
- PROPULSION
- PAP primary acceleration system, QV maneuvering thrusters and Promegen emergency propulsion.
- POWER
- D-T controlled-fusion plant with independent emergency fission generation.
WEAPONS
- two light Vertikron pulse cannons
- one rapid-fire thorium gun
- defensive electronic countermeasures
- missile countermeasure system
Its weapons are deliberately below KAVOE warship standards.
Bulwark Escort
A larger six-to-twelve-person vessel intended to accompany passenger Ferries and mining convoys.
WEAPONS
- two Vertikron cannons
- two thorium RFG positions
- a licensed limited-capacity defensive missile launcher
Tactics
Iron Spear avoids pursuit once the protected vessel is safe. It forms a defensive corridor, identifies the threat, transmits warnings and positions its ships to prevent an attacker from obtaining a clean approach vector. If attacked, it attempts to disable propulsion or weapons rather than destroy the hostile craft.
Other Services
Armed personnel can travel aboard the client's vessel. Iron Spear also provides station security, mining-site protection, executive transportation, threat assessment and anti-boarding teams.
Limitation
No interstellar escort. Once the customer initiates interstellar transit, Iron Spear's contract ends.
Record
Iron Spear has lost escort craft fighting pirates.
