Sentinel Transit Defense

HEADQUARTERS

Eos-7, Wolf 359

SPECIALTY

Frontier security, mining operations and unconventional threats

REPUTATION

Effective but controversial

Overview

Sentinel has the industry's most unusual founder. Its chief executive, Marek Venn, is a former pirate.

Venn spent years participating in cargo raids before abandoning piracy and eventually cooperating with ICIA. He later entered the private-security industry. Whether he genuinely reformed remains a frequent subject of argument.

His knowledge of piracy nevertheless gives Sentinel an advantage: they understand how pirates think because their CEO used to be one.

Craft

Jackal Patrol Craft

Fast, inexpensive and particularly useful around asteroid fields.

PROPULSION
Promegen / QV powered.

WEAPONS

  • one Vertikron cannon
  • one thorium RFG

Hound Escort

PROPULSION
PAP / Promegen propulsion with QV maneuvering.

WEAPONS

  • two Vertikron cannons
  • two thorium RFGs
  • electronic countermeasures

Tactics

Sentinel employs deliberately unpredictable navigation. Instead of following ideal interception geometry, its escorts sometimes behave as pirates themselves would — using asteroids, moons, orbital infrastructure and sensor shadows to deny attackers predictable approaches.

Services

Sentinel is especially popular with:

  • asteroid miners
  • independent shuttles
  • frontier settlements
  • prospectors
  • private expeditions
  • small freight operators

Limitation

Sentinel has no interstellar escort capability and has occasionally been criticized for accepting contracts other companies consider unnecessarily dangerous.

Record

Sentinel has suffered casualties during asteroid-belt ambushes.
