Extraterrestrial Terminology

The following terms are used as general cultural and descriptive vocabulary for extraterrestrial beings. They distinguish broadly between humanoid and nonhumanoid extraterrestrial forms without replacing the proper name of an individual species.

Usage Notes

Tauni, Globerus, and Glorberi are broad descriptive categories rather than species names. A being may therefore be identified by its species and also described using one of these general terms when morphology is relevant. Globbies is informal slang. Its social meaning, degree of politeness, and acceptability in professional or official contexts have not yet been established in this working draft.

Faith, Philosophy, and Relationships

Older Earth Religions

Christianity, Islam, and Judaism continue to exist, and adherents may still practice marriage according to their religious and cultural traditions. These religions, however, are less common than they once were.

New and Emerging Traditions

New faiths and belief systems have developed alongside older Earth religions. Some people belong to a cult that worships Sharra Zul'Elkoen. Another major tradition is Kiralunas, which has millions of followers.

Kiralunas

Kiralunas is more a philosophy than a conventional religion. It has similarities to Taoism, but its worldview extends beyond humanity and Earth to other species and other forms of life outside Earth.

Kiralunas Pair-Bonding Philosophy

Kiralunas followers developed a form of pair bonding intended to recognize what they regard as the realities of human nature. In their view, permanent marriage is antiquated and makes little sense in a civilization in which an individual may encounter multiple potential mates. A mate is therefore understood as temporary rather than necessarily permanent. Different long-term relationships may fulfill different purposes: one mate may be chosen for procreation, another for romance and companionship, and another for practical partnership such as growing crops, repairing habitats, fishing, or other productive work. No individual is to have more than three mates over the course of a lifetime. These unions are not called marriages.

Dating and Mate Selection

Dating among Kiralunas followers reflects these long-term choices. Courtship may therefore develop toward a natalspouse, pragspouse, or comspouse relationship rather than assuming that every serious relationship is progressing toward conventional marriage.

The Kiralune

Followers of Kiralunas attend a kiralune to connect with one another, sing, dance, pray to their ancestors, participate in community life, and find potential mates. Four major kiralune meetings are held each year. The gatherings honor the seasons of Earth, the original human homeworld, preserving a cultural connection to Earth among followers living on other worlds.

Cultural Coexistence

Kiralunas pair bonding exists alongside conventional marriage and other relationship customs. Christians, Muslims, Jews, and followers of other traditions may continue to marry, while Kiralunas followers use natalspouse, pragspouse, and comspouse relationships.

Director-Generals are selected solely on demonstrated merit, integrity, and lifetime achievement — never on political affiliation, wealth, popularity, or birthplace. Together, the seven Director-Generals form the Septrust, the Consortium's highest coordinating authority.
