KEAF-Mk IV (2384 Standard)

Infantry Mobility Enhancement System

A powered exoskeleton designed to augment the strength, endurance, and stability of KAVOE personnel operating heavy equipment. Unlike powered combat armor, the KEAF is an open structural frame worn over the combat uniform or environmental suit. It enhances the operator's physical performance but is not intended to replace body armor.

KAVOE adopted the KEAF after electromagnetic thorium weapons became increasingly heavy due to superconducting launch coils, Thrishton-powered capacitor banks, reinforced barrels, and high-capacity ammunition containers. Rather than reducing weapon effectiveness, KAVOE chose to augment the operator.

Medical Benefits

Reduces spinal compression, knee injuries, shoulder strain, and repetitive-motion injuries, allowing operators to remain effective during long deployments.

The KEAF is recommended, not mandatory, for personnel assigned weapons whose combined weapon-and-ammunition mass exceeds prescribed limits. It is particularly common among crews operating MGT-series thorium machine guns, heavy rapid-fire guns, engineering teams, rescue specialists, and boarding units. The objective is not to create 'super soldiers,' but to reduce fatigue, improve weapon stability, and increase operational endurance while preserving mobility.

Sentry Systems

Design, Roles, Specifications, and Employment Doctrine

KAVOE sentries are not artificial intelligences and are not sentient. They are preprogrammed autonomous machines that execute certified task libraries, sensor-response rules, identification protocols, and force-authority restrictions.

The sentry's greatest operational vulnerability is instruction dependence. A corrupted or maliciously altered instruction set can cause a perfectly functional machine to execute the wrong task.

Command and software updates require authenticated sources. Medical and EBC sentries use segregated security networks. Critical changes to personnel classification or force authority require redundant verification.

All three models are vacuum capable, using handholds, magnetic or mechanical gripping systems, and small maneuvering thrusters. They are not spacecraft.

SMM-15

Sentry Medical Model 15

HEIGHT: 1.22 mMASS: 245 kg

A medical-support, casualty-retrieval, containment, and medical-security sentry. Deliberately low, broad, stable, and difficult to overturn.

Primary Roles

  • Guarding medical supplies, pharmacies, laboratories, and quarantine entrances
  • Entering biologically contaminated compartments to retrieve injured personnel
  • Entering radiation zones, toxic atmospheres, and decompressed spaces
  • Performing predefined casualty stabilization before extraction
  • Environmental sampling, contamination detection, and radiation survey
  • Personnel restraint when a patient presents a physical danger

Force Logic

FIND CASUALTY → IDENTIFY IMMEDIATE THREAT → STABILIZE WITHIN AUTHORIZED PARAMETERS → EXTRACT → DELIVER TO MEDICAL PERSONNEL. The SMM-15 is not a physician and does not improvise treatment.

Lethal armament is normally omitted because the model routinely operates around injured, confused, or neurologically impaired patients.

SLC-28

Sentry Light Combat Model 28 ('Slice')

HEIGHT: 1.42 mMASS: 390 kg

The standard mobile combat and security sentry. Combines substantial mass with much greater speed than the medical model.

Primary Roles

  • Patrol, boarding defense, corridor security, and suppressive fire
  • Hostile-organism response and personnel restraint
  • Compact sentry thorium rapid-fire technology with ~1.5 km effective range
  • Fire-permission maps prevent firing at pressure boundaries, reactors, fuel systems, or friendly zones

Force Logic

Force levels: RESTRAIN → INCAPACITATE → SEVERE FORCE → LETHAL FORCE. Upper force levels require appropriate authorization or predefined emergency condition.

Suppressive fire is an authorized programmed task — a controller designates the area, duration, and force authority; the SLC-28 executes the pattern. It does not independently decide that suppression is tactically desirable.

SHC-78

Sentry Heavy Combat Model 78

HEIGHT: 1.83 mMASS: 1,180 kg

A heavy armored combat and containment sentry for threats that lighter sentries cannot physically stop.

Primary Roles

  • Heavy boarding defense and fortified security
  • Dangerous-organism containment and hostile-environment operations
  • Heavy sentry RFG with ~3 km effective range
  • Heavy shield generator with sustained protection against small-arms fire
  • ~1,200 kg manipulator lift capacity for grappling and blocking
  • Retractable deck-gripping structures for bracing during actuator force

Force Logic

Power can be prioritized among SHIELDS, MOVEMENT, WEAPONS, and SENSORS — command functions, not independent tactical judgment.

The SHC-78's mass and manipulators are themselves major weapons. It can grapple large organisms, pin targets, block corridors, and pull hostile organisms away from casualties.
