KOA Numbering Scheme
Format: [Career Field Number]-[Greek Specialty Designator]. Example: 41-Gamma identifies a specialty within Career Field 41, Survival Operations. Alpha is used below as the primary or baseline specialty identifier. Beta, Gamma, Delta, Epsilon, and later designators may be assigned as individual occupations and advanced qualifications are developed.

Example: 41-Gamma = specialty within Career Field 41, Survival Operations
KOA codes identify professional qualifications rather than rank. Enlisted personnel of different ranks may hold the same KOA while possessing different levels of experience or additional specialty qualifications. KOTA professional education prepares officers to command a capability; it does not automatically make a newly commissioned officer more technically proficient than an experienced enlisted specialist in that KOA.
The Seven KOTA Professional Schools
Four Curriculum Spheres
The seven schools primarily deliver Sphere III. They do not operate as isolated academies. All KOTA trainees continue overlapping instruction in Spheres I, II, and IV while completing school-specific professional education. The four spheres overlap throughout the approximately one-Earth-year KOTA process rather than occurring as four isolated sequential blocks.

Cross-School Exercises
Cross-school exercises are mandatory. A single scenario may require combat leadership, sensor and intelligence interpretation, engineering casualty response, medical care, evacuation, xenological judgment, legal authority, logistics, and public communication. KOTA therefore teaches officers from seven professional schools to command one integrated KAVOE.
