Aliens of Zul

The Many Peoples of the Zul'Elkoen Universe

"Aliens of Zul" is a collective designation encompassing the many non-human species that inhabit or have visited the worlds of the Zul'Elkoen Universe. From the merchant Zelmoks to the peaceful Squelgians, the loud Nabzolians to the ancient Nyokai, the term reflects the extraordinary diversity of intelligent life sharing the stars with humanity.

Terminology

In the Zul'Elkoen Universe, the standard word for an alien or extraterrestrial is Tauni — a Fijian word meaning "alien." It makes sense to have a new word for them when not on Earth, as the old terminology no longer applies in a galaxy full of intelligent beings.

Unfortunately, not all humans use respectful language. Scaivie is a pejorative word for aliens, similar to the worst racial slurs in human history. Its use is condemned by the Consortium but persists in less civilized corners of space.

THE PEOPLES

The Diversity of Zul

The Zul'Elkoen Universe is home to a remarkable variety of intelligent species. Beyond humanity, the known species include:

  • Zelmoks — Master merchants from Yrluzia
  • Squelgians — Peaceful, camouflaging traders
  • Nabzolians — Four-eyed, loud-voiced ocean dwellers
  • Erthuzians — Culinary innovators from Erthuzia
  • Nyokai — Ancient predators and experimenters
  • Senticoms — Sentient communicators with no bodies
  • Velkth — A species still being documented
  • Jaykes — Android servants of the Consortium

Other species mentioned in the archives include the Trothlovians, Dimidians, and Keluzians, as well as the Amonians from WASP-24b and the Beylthians from Gliese 357.

THE CONSORTIUM

Coexistence

The Lurran Consortium, formed in 2105, serves as the primary framework for interstellar commerce and governance among humans and their alien partners. Through organizations like KAVOE and its Xenoliaison division, the Consortium works to maintain peaceful relations across species — though tensions, prejudices, and ancient conflicts remain part of life in the Zul'Elkoen Universe.
